Eye infections are ailments that affect the eyes and are caused by viral, bacterial, or other microbiological agents. No matter what type of eye infection or eye allergies you have it is worth noting that there is eye infection treatment available.

People who wear contact lenses quite often find themselves getting some type of eye infection. This is due to a build up of bacteria in the eye from constantly wearing contact lenses and not disinfecting them properly. Another common eye infection is pink eye infection.

An eye infection will usually need some sort of medication in order to treat it. Whilst most are not dangerous there are some infections that will need your doctors immediate attention. If you think you have an eye infection it is important to have it checked out and to see what type of eye infection it is. An eye infection can affect any part of the eye including the optic nerve at the back of the eye.

If you have an eye infection you will most definitely notice some of the eye infection symptoms listed below.
• Chronic redness
• Itching
• Flaking of the eye lids
• Eye discomfort
Blurred vision (although this may also be a sign of a more serious complaint such as retinal detachment or presbyopia)
• Watery eyes
• Eye discharge
• Swelling around the eye or eyelid
Eye pain

An eye infection can lead to more serious problems and can affect your vision if not treated. If you suffer with a pink eye infection this may be conjunctivitis and treatment will be required. A stye is another eye infection that will need treatment and this eye infection can be extremely painful.

The eyes do have their own natural defence mechanisms in the form of the eyelids, the cornea, the conjunctiva, and tears. Sometimes these defences are not enough and bacteria or allergens can get in which will lead to an eye infection or eye allergies.

In some cases you eye infection or eye allergies can be treated at home but if you think your eye infection or eye allergies are serious then you should seek medical advice.
If you wish to prevent an eye infection occurring, you should ensure that your hands are kept clean at all times and keep them away from your eyes. Avoid substances that you now cause eye allergies and avoid products that make your eye itch, burn, or water.
